About Me: I was born in West Bengal, India, a culturally rich state nestled between the Himalayas and the Bay of Bengal. I grew up in the Paschim Medinipur district, where I completed my schooling, college, and university education. My academic journey then led me to IIEST Shibpur (formerly BESUS), one of India’s oldest engineering and science institutes with a legacy of over 150 years. There, I earned my Ph.D. in Organo-Physical Chemistry in 2006 under the supervision of Prof. Shyamaprosad Goswami, focusing on Molecular Recognition and Supramolecular Chemistry. In March 2008, I joined the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, where I have been actively engaged in teaching and research. I teach courses in Organic Chemistry, Heterocyclic Chemistry, and Organic Spectroscopy to UG, PG, and Ph.D. students. My research interests span several interconnected domains, including: Molecular Recognition and Sensor Design for heavy metal ions and biologically active molecules, Metal-free synthesis of small heterocyclic molecules of medicinal interest, Design and development of demulsifiers for oil-spill recovery to meet industrial demand. A significant milestone in my career was my postdoctoral work in Prof. Wim Dehaen’s Laboratory (LOSA) at KU Leuven, Belgium, under the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship as an AREAS+ Postdoc Fellow, where I spent six months learning and advancing BODIPY chemistry. I maintain active collaborations with both academic and industrial partners to ensure impactful and application-oriented research. My academic collaborators include Prof. Wim Dehaen (KU Leuven, Belgium), Dr. Manas Santra (National Centre for Cell Science, Pune), and Dr. Kuladeep Jana (Bose Institute, Kolkata). My industrial partnerships span organizations such as Tata Steel (Jamshedpur), Ion Exchange India Pvt. Ltd. (Hyderabad), Pidilite Industries (Mumbai), Organo Catalyst Pvt. Ltd. (Uttar Pradesh), Globus Spirits Pvt. Ltd. (Panagarh, West Bengal), and the Kuwait Oil Company (Kuwait). As a mentor, I am committed to fostering a collaborative, dynamic, and innovative research environment.
